Since August 2024, I have served as the co-facilitator and co-instructor of record for CFE/CRS/SOC/WGS 230: Intergroup Dialogue, Dialogue on Racism & Antiracism. This course is an elective for undergraduate students across the Syracuse University campus, it meets the Art & Scineces critical reflections rquirement, it is approved for the Atrocity Studies and the Practices for Social Justice Education minor, and it can be petitioned for an elective for the Mindfulness and Contemplative Studies minor. Intergroup Dialogue (IGD) is an innovative model centering a highly interactive small group dialogue rooted in experiential and reflective learning environments. IGD brings together students from different social locations and social identities to discuss challenging topics, such as systemic racism.
Over Fall 2024 and Spring 2025, I have been a co-facilitator for this course, so all teaching responsibilities are deeply collaborative. These collaborative teaching responsibilities have included:
Co-facilitating weekly class times for 2.5 hours
Co-creating the course syllabus
Co-modifying previous course agendas for each class's needs, interests, and reflections
Co-leading class groundings rooted in contemplative, meditative, and reflective pedagogies
Co-faciltiating IGD-model activities, such as speed mingling, cultural chests, testimonios, hopes and fears, the web of oppression, debate vs. dialogue, intragroup dialogue, and more.
Co-facilitating multiple student assignments, including student-led dialogues, critical reflections, testimonios, imagination projects, and final action projects.
Co-creating a new student project for Fall 2024 rooted in Ruha Benjamin's Imagination
Grading all assignments and class participation
Meeting with students during office hours for additional ongoing support
Attending weekly team meetings to reflect and discuss on best supports for the course and students
Below is the course syllabus which I collaborated on with my co-facilitator and IGD Program Director. Below, you will find examples of the course agendas that highlight course groundings and IGD activities and the assignment descriptions for our new "Radical Imagination" Project as well as the final action project. In addition, under "Evaluations" you will find feedback from students in this course from Fall 2024.
